May is Montreal Gazette Month at Chomedey Seniors Mini-Centre

Ah, the beauty of retirement coupled with a zest for knowledge and understanding, and the perpetual search for the joys that life offers on a daily basis, regardless of gender, age, origin, political persuasion and anything else you might want to use as a yardstick for accepting our diversity while celebrating the fundamental dimensions of humanity that unite us.

It's this broad and positive perception of life and living that usually strikes you about one of English-speaking Laval's most active and vibrant community organizations – the Chomedey Seniors Mini-Centre of the Cummings Jewish Centre for Seniors.

They never stand still, these seekers of what life has to offer, in their search for educational, social and cultural experiences that provide intellectual and spiritual sustenance for a sizeable membership that keeps coming back for more.

They are refreshingly ambitious, these denizens of afternoons of delightful discussion at their home away from home on Thursdays – the Young Israel of Chomedey Synagogue. The line-up of guest speakers, workshop coordinators and entertainers produced by the Mini-Centre's program committee is nothing less than spectacular, offering the best that the Greater Montreal area has to offer, across a varied spectrum of expertise and interests.

And it appears that May is Montreal Gazette Month as three of the English daily's best and brightest accepted to speak to members on May 3, 10, and 17.
Charness, Schwarcz and Bryan
Lawyer and legal rights columnist Jordan Charness brought his extensive knowledge of the law and vast acumen of practical experience to the Mini-Centre this past Thursday, May 3, when he spoke on 'Steering You Right' - Greatest Stories.
Attorney Charness will be followed to the podium this coming Thursday, May 10, by Dr. Joe Schwarcz, he of McGill University's Office for Science and Society, The Montreal Gazette, and CJAD Radio. Dr. Joe will offer members some "Magic for Fun and Health."

The third media luminary scheduled to come to the Chomedey Mini-Centre in May is Gazette business columnist Jay Bryan, who will engage club members in an exercise of exploration and discussion of national economic issues. Mr. Bryan's topic is 'The Economic Outlook for Canada'. He visits on Thursday, May 17.
The rest of the story for May
The Mini-Centre takes a break on May 24. No meeting will take place because of Shavout. (Traditional agricultural festival which marks the beginning of the wheat harvest. The festival is associated with the birth of Israel's religion – the great historical event of the giving of the Ten Commandments through Moses on Mount Sinai.)
Activities resume the following Thursday, May 31, with an Afternoon of Musical Entertainment featuring singer Yehuda Pinto in "A Celebration of Charm".

All regular weekly meetings take place at the Young Israel of Chomedey Synagogue, 1025 Elizabeth, in Chomedey, just a short walk north of Notre Dame Blvd. Meetings are open to everyone. Starting time is 1:30 pm.
