Meet some members of the Laval Women's Group, pictured at a recent meeting held at their 'home away from home' (on Mondays, anyway), the Campeau Community Centre. There are many good things going on in all parts of Laval where English- speaking residents regularly gather, and the Laval Women's Group is a great example of the attractive and stimulating programs, activities, and projects made available to the community-at-large, often at little or no cost. Tomorrow, May 7, the group celebrates Canada Day in May.

Canada Day in May?
"Why Not!" Says the Laval Women's Group
Delving into the deeper meaning of some conclusions, one can usually find both the rhyme and reason for doing something out of the ordinary or at a different time than the usual.
Case in point: a party in honour of Canada, not on July 1 but on May 7. "This may seem a little strange at this time of the year but as we have celebrated many other special days and since we are closed during the summer months, it was decided to have a special day for Canada in early May," Mary Hewlett, spokesperson for the Laval Women's Group told Courrier Laval Weekly News.
Well, that should be ample rhyme and reason to justify moving Canada Day ahead to May 7 at the Laval Women's Group, one of the city's longest-serving English-speaking community organizations, offering an extensive program of informative, entertaining, and health-promoting projects and activities to women of Chomedey and Laval.
The guests of honour at the Laval Women's Group 2007 Canada Day Celebration will be Laval-Les Îles federal MP Raymonde Folco and Don Paradis, president of Royal Canadian Legion (Chomedey) Branch 251.
Mrs. Folco will speak on the meaning and importance of Canada Day. Mr. Paradis will give a brief history of Legion 251 and outline the many services it provides for the community-at-large.
About the Laval Women's Group
The Laval Women's Group is well into its third decade of service to the English-speaking women of the community. Regular weekly meetings are held Mondays, starting at noon.
The gatherings are 'bring your lunch affairs', with coffee and tea served. After lunch, at regular meetings, you can spend some quality time enjoying line dancing, light exercise and tai chi, or just simply in interesting and casual conversation with friends and acquaintances. New members are always welcome.
The group meets at the Campeau Community Centre, 3781 Levesque West, corner of 80th Avenue, Chomedey. For more information: Mary Hewlett, (450) 669-2836.
