Chomedey's Ashley Abramovitch to represent Quebec in Miss Teen Canada International Pageant
One of 35 contestants across Canada, four from Quebec
Chomedey's Ashley Abramovitch is a go-getter who wastes little time in going after what she considers good opportunities to make one's mark while contributing to a good cause. Having just recently completed her Secondary 4 studies at Laurier Senior High School, Ashley has embarked on a new venture to add to the very busy life she leads at school and in the community.
"The news that I had been chosen to be Miss Teen Quebec in the Miss Teen Canada International pageant was an unbelievable thrill for me," Ashley told Courrier Laval Weekly News in an interview conducted at our offices at the end of June, just a few days before she joined the Quebec-Ontario contestants at a weekend in Cambridge, Ontario."I had my first event (of the competition) this past Canada Day weekend," Ashley stated on her return from the trip, an experience she considers an excellent first step toward the goals she has in mind. "I had a great time and I'm excited to get back in August," she explained, adding that in Cambridge she met all the other delegates from Quebec and Ontario.
In Cambridge, the delegates helped build a mountain high of teddy bears to be sent to children in Afghanistan, and participated in the city's Canada Day Parade.
"I was informed we would be camping for the weekend and that on July 1st we would be in the parade. It was very exciting and a great experience. We set up tents, had meals together and got to know each other. Needless to say, a bunch of girls sure cause a lot of good times and laughter; we were all-new to one another and were very excited to finally meet."
Ashley, a member of both the Laurier Senior High School student council and the school's 'Show With Fashion' organizing committee, also finished her year on the honour roll. Ever the considerate individual, she thought ahead and brought extra stuffed teddy bears to compensate for those who had forgotten theirs."The days were great, but by the time bedtime came we were all too excited to get any sleep. Oh well! Who needs sleep when you're having fun!" summed up the charismatic young woman whose zest for life is evident in everything she says and does.
The parade
For the parade everyone had all been told to wear the national colours in honour of Canada. "I have to admit it was really something to see, it was like a sea of striking colours, an ocean of beautiful red and white. I felt like a queen, smiling, waving and blowing kisses from the float to the children along the route," Ashley explained, adding that all too soon it was over and time for everyone to start the journey home.
"I made a lot of friends and really have to say it was sad to say goodbye. I am excited and looking forward to meeting the girls again in August as well as to meet the rest of the Miss Teen Canada International delegates and the pageant staff."
