Energy, force and motion at Genesis Elementary School
To the Editor,
Courrier Laval Weekly News
I am sending you a letter I wrote to my students, thanking them for the wonderful projects they produced for the 2007 Genesis Elementary School Science Fair held at the end of the school year. I would like you to publish it recognition of the exceptional effort they put into their work. (Please see 'Dear…' below).
The theme of the fair was: Energy, Force and Motion.
The young people's work included projects involving physics, electricity, magnetism, gravity, simple machines, inertia, and engineering (bridges and dams).
Sample projects studied and presented various aspects of perpetual motion, the gyroscope, wet batteries, movement in a carousel, hovercrafts, pulleys, solar-powered cars, and friction.
The projects were very well researched and effectively explained, with the children demonstrating plenty of imagination, creativity, originality, and communication skills. It was quite difficult to choose the medal winners among the 103 grade 5 and 6 students who participated.
The children's work was showcased at an evening exhibition that drew a large crowd of 300 appreciative parents, family members and friends of Genesis Elementary School. Thank you.
Dina Farese, Science Teacher, Genesis School, Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board.
