Gilles Vaillancourt

In those days, when I entered elementary school, there were two schools in Laval-des-Rapides, one for the boys and the other for the girls. In my first year of school, l'Académie Saint-Jean-Eudes was undergoing expansion work, and what I remember most is doing my first grade with the girls, at l'école Bon Pasteur, which was run by the nuns.

I have hundreds of fond memories from different years. But I do especially recall having to take care of the skating rink. There were no (city) recreational services at the time, so we were the ones who managed the rink.

It was the discovery of a new world. There were about a hundred aspects linked to the experience. Even today, I look at the reopening of schools as the beginning of a new year.
