Liberals consult
The Quebec wing of the Liberal Party of Canada crisscrossed the province in the past few weeks in a series of public meetings seeking input from supporters and the population at large. The tour of Quebec ended in Laval last week.
Chaired by Céline Hervieux-Payette, the Liberal Government leader in the Senate, the public consultation meetings broached several issues – the economy, environmental concerns, social justice, and Canada’s place in the world.
Those who spoke or deposited briefs at these meetings included not only Liberal Party militants but also others with an interest in the issues in question. Liberal senators and MPs touring with Senator Hervieux-Payette heard the opinions of the business community as well as community groups, in particular.
The presiding senator let it be known that the report from the 14 province-wide meetings will be available on the Senate web site at the end of the month.
