Francine Charbonneau reelected chairperson of the Commission scolaire de Laval (CSDL)
If you pay taxes to the Commission scolaire de Laval, you may be interested to know that Francine Charbonneau has resumed the chair of the Council of Commissioners.
At the regular November meeting, Mrs. Charbonneau’s colleagues also elected the board’s executive committee, to be comprised of herself, Solange Provencher, Raynald Hawkins, Anne Lemieux, Celine Blanchette, and Louise Lortie.

Robert Alexandre, Lyne Sylvain, Sona Lakhoyan, Nathalie Sampaio, Danielle Gratton, Francois-Hugues Liberge, and Vincent-Carl Leriche are new to the CSDL council, having been elected or acclaimed for the first time in the November 4 school elections.

The 21-member council also includes two representatives chosen by the parents committee – Jean-Marc Hetu and Chantal Latendresse. These members are consulted on all decisions but do not have voting rights.
Local government
The first meeting of this new council began with the solemn oath taken by each commissioner. Claude Sabourin, the CSDL Director-General told the commissioners: “You are members of a local government; the only such government devoted to education.”

He added that the commissioners must be feeling severely challenged by the debate engendered as a result of the ADQ’s proposals on the future of school boards. “We have to concentrate our actions on the success rates of our students. I am confident that the council of commissioners and the CSDL administration will successfully meet the challenge,” he stated

The next meeting of the council of commissioners of the CSDL will take place Wednesday, December 5, at 7:30 pm, the board administrative centre, 955, Saint-Martin Blvd. West.

Of note, the next meeting of the Council of Commissioners of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board, which administers Laval’s English public schools, will take place Wednesday, December 12, at 255 Montee Lesage in Rosemere, starting at 7:30 pm.

Meetings of all Quebec schools boards are open to the public.
