Labour contract signed by city and blue collar workers
A labour agreement between Ville de Laval and the Syndicats des cols bleus was made official ten days ago with the signing of the contract by mayor Gilles Vaillancourt, on behalf of the city, and Martin Gagnon, president of the union.
Without disclosing the content of the contract, the mayor said he was satisfied with the agreement, which in his view is consistent with the city’s financial framework.
“(Contract) negotiations require patience and respect,” he stated. “There were differing opinions during the contract talks but we worked together to arrive at solutions.”
According to the mayor, it is understood that the union will have to assume responsibility for the costs of repairs to the damages linked to pressure tactics, such as stickers pasted on trucks and glue poured into the locks of certain municipal buildings.
The union did not return calls from Courrier Laval, in search of their point of view concerning the mayor’s statement about the costs of repairs to damaged city property.
