Sold! – CSDL sells land for $3.2 million
Commissioners of the Commission scolaire de Laval have passed a resolution ratifying the sale for $3.2 million of a lot situated on Cosmodome Avenue.
The transaction with Gestion TRI inc. was made public at the CSDL's January meeting of the Council of Commissioners. Reached by telephone, Gestion TRI inc.'s vice-resident, finance, declined to give details on what project(s) will be developed at the site. The company, based in Saint-Nicolas, south of Quebec, has been active in commercial and industrial real estate since 1991.
The benefits of the sale of the land, originally targeted as the site of new administrative facilities for the CSDL, will be allocated towards the cost of renovation work linked to the Board's current administrative centre, located at 955 Saint-Martin Blvd. East. The municipality evaluated the land at $2.4 million.
Deconfessionalization
The transaction remains to be finalized because the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board still has the right of first refusal. To exercise the option of purchasing the lot behind Mother Teresa Junior High and Laurier Senior High, the English board would have to match the $3.2 Million offer made by Gestion TRI inc.
CSDL Chairperson Francine Charbonneau says her board inherited the land in 1998, through the redistribution of real estate linked to the deconfessionalization of school boards. It was decided in 1998 that the schools at 2323 Daniel Johnson (Laval Catholic High and Sacred Heart Middle School - renamed Mother Teresa Junior High and Laurier Senior High in 2005) would become property of Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board, while the vacant lot behind the schools would be turned over to the CSDL. Prior to non-confessional school boards, the two institutions and the land belonged to the Commission scolaire de Chomedey.
