The Laval Symphony Orchestra (OSL), under the direction of Alain Trudel, presents Classics of Yesteryear and Today series, Wednesday, February 20, at 8:00 pm, at Salle André-Mathieu (475 de l'Avenir Blvd.) Information: (450) 667-2040.
OSL pays homage to Mozart
The Laval Symphony Orchestra will be paying tribute to Mozart at its Adieu Amadeus concert, this coming Wednesday, February 20, at Salle André-Mathieu, starting at 8:00 pm.
The concert, part of a series on the classics of yesteryear and today, is taking place in conjunction with the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth. It will showcase the talents of Élaine Marcil, the OSL's first violin, and Marie-Josée Arpin, second violin. The proceedings will be narrated, in French, by Edgar Fruitier, comedian and passionate music lover.
The program will offer more than just Mozart. "I wanted to celebrate some of Mozart's contemporaries, composers who influenced his work and whose works were in turn influenced by the Austrian musical genius," said Alain Trudel, conductor of the OSL.
On the program is Mozart's Symphony No. 40, composed while Mozart was in mourning for his daughter. "There's a stream of tragic human communication in this work, a lesson in life through which I came to know Mozart," said Edgar Fruitier. (B.L.)
