Editor's Note: Pictured are some of the students and teachers involved in the 2008 Laurier Senior High School Science Fair. "It was an inspiring experience," said Ashely Abramovitch, front row, fourth from left, who is no stranger to brilliant science projects, having won a gold medal at the 2007 Bell Regional Science Fair. And oh yes, did you know that Ashley also distinguished herself as Miss Teen Quebec 2007 in a national scholarship program? Very talented, in many ways, is this young lady. 'Inspiration, hard work, curiosity, attentiveness'
Year after year, the science fair seems to get bigger and bigger at Laurier Senior High School (LSHS) as more aspiring young scientists participate in this wonderful event. This year, on January 23, 63 of our top students from secondary 3, 4 and 5 science classes were proud to present their projects, which ranged from Engineering to Health Sciences.

Here is a glance at some of our participants’ reactions:

Our Secondary 5 gold medalist of 2006-2007, Ashley Abramovitch: “Being in the science fair is such a wonderful experience. This is my second year participating in it. After winning the first gold medal in the history of LSHS last year at the Bell Regional Fair, I was once again inspired to work on a new project. I hope I can take this year’s project to the gold level once again!”

As for Isabella Albanese, a finalist of this year’s fair with an excellent project, she believes: "This year did not disappoint. There was an incredible display of projects which not only showcased interesting new discoveries but also the hard work and determination of the students as well.”

Our last comment is from another brilliant finalist, Sabrina De Cicco:

“It was great to see how curious and attentive our peers were in learning about each project. It was indeed a pleasure to participate in such an event. I wish all those who make it to the Regional the best of luck!”

The top ten projects in no specific order are: Egg-Sperimenting - By Ricky Baldassare and Christopher Morgan; How Clean is your Toothbrush? - By Tania Gallucio and Melissa Horvat; The Effect of Biodegradable Products on Plants - By Isabella Albanese and Sabrina De Cicco; Making Wine out of Store Bought Fruit Juices - By Alexandra Campagnale and Samantha Fiorino; Multitasking - By Josie Cipolla and Dina Lepiane; How Would You Handle It? - By Jessica Marsillo and Jessica Tana; Blood a Vital Fluid - By Ashley Abramovitch; Hockey Sticks - By Derek Pimentel; Crane Project - By Michael Kovacs and Christopher Mastropietro; What Color Shines The brightest Through Fog? - By Laura Giardetti and Dalsha Vasanthakumaran.

Congratulations to the students who participated and thanks to everyone who took the time to come and see the exhibits.
