As part of its current provincial tour, the Quebec Press Council will be making a stop for a public meeting in Laval this coming Thursday, March 6.
In the first phase of the visit, the council will meet with members of socioeconomic organizations to discuss the situation in Laval concerning access to information. This part of the day is by invitation only.
In the evening, the council will hold an open meeting and public forum from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm in the Salle Vimont of the Sheraton Laval, 2240 autoroute des Laurentides.
The Council is particularly interested in receiving impressions from the population concerning local and regional information as well as on the coverage of the province's different regions by the national media. On the agenda is also the question of information channeled by media across the Internet and the credibility afforded this information by Internet readers.
Observations collected on this provincial tour will influence members in their preparation of the Council's next Action Plan. The information brought to it will also allow the Council to develop future measures and make recommendations to media and journalists.
Founded 35 years ago, the Quebec Press Council is a non-profit organization whose membership includes members of the public, publishers, editors and journalists. It acts as an 'honour system' press tribunal with a two-fold mission of defending both freedom of the press and the public's right to access to information. For more information:
