Vacation turns into nightmare for Illinois family
After coming to Quebec in the hope of enjoying a week of snowmobiling in St-Donat, an American family came in for quite a shock when the trailer carrying their four snowmobiles was stolen from the parking lot of the Laval Hilton, on February 28.
The family had barely checked into the hotel where they were to spend the night when the theft occurred. Watching from a hotel window overlooking the parking lot, a member of the family noticed that the truck and trailer had disappeared. Thinking that perhaps it had been towed away, they phoned the reception desk but were told by the clerk on duty that no requests for towing of any vehicles had been made. A call to Laval police quickly ensued.
$20,000 reward
According to police the suspected perpetrators, described as in their fifties, had walked onto the parking lot at around 8:30 pm. After working the lock for a few minutes they managed to open the door and make off with the truck and trailer.
The stolen vehicle is a Chevrolet Suburban, towing a Featherlite trailer. On the side of the trailer are inscribed the words Save A Star in memory of the owner's son who passed away last year.
Anyone with any information that could be useful in the recovery of the truck and trailer is asked to contact Laval Police at 1-866-796-4636. The family is offering a $20,000 reward to anyone who is directly instrumental in the finding of the stolen vehicles. The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at $120,000.
