Roseline Filion scores points in China and Regina
Laval diver Roseline Filion enjoyed great success at two recent meets, a Grand Prix at the international level and a Canadian Championship, events which took place just a few days apart.
For sarters, she distinguished herself in Shenzhen, China, in the synchronized tower (10 metres) where she excelled with partner Rachel Kemp, despite having her as a partner in international competition on just a couple of previous occasions.
The competition did not start off well for the Canadian pair, who completely messed up their first two compulsory dives, finding themselves in last place. But they ramped it up in their three optional dives, resulting in points good enough to land them in 5th place, quite an acceptable achievement, according to the Laval athlete.
"Since we haven't dived together much, I would have to say that the fifth place finish is satisfactory," says Filion, adding that after some bad first dives, the rest were much better.
In Individual competition, Filion showed consistency, finishing fifth as well.
Regina
A few days later, Filion was in Regina, once again to take part in the synchronized ten metres tower competition, both individual and pair, at the Canadian Championships.
This time, diving with her regular partner, Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal, Filion came in second, racking up 310.47 points, finishing just behind Emilie Heymans of Saint-Lambert and Marie-Ève Marleau of Laval, who came in first with 322.83 points.
It will be interesting to watch these two diving pairs battling it out at the Olympic Pool in Montreal, for a place on the Canadian Olympic Diving team.
Filion's and Benfeito's track record is certainly substantial, having taken gold at World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and International Grand Prix events.
In individual competition, Roseline once again finished second in Regina, with total points of 976.90, coming behind Emilie Heymans who logged 1132.45. The other Laval representative, Marie-Eve Marleau, finished third with 950.95 points.
As for Alexandre Depatie, he was forced to pull out of the competition due to a bad back. He was leading after the preliminary round.
