Nicolas Macrozonaris brings in gold in Guadeloupe
The sprinter advances on his best time
The Laval sprinter Nicolas Marcrozonaris one the gold medal in the 100 metre race at the Scirocco International Meet that took place in Guadeloupe on March 29th.
The Chomedy athlete was the fastest runner, coming in at 10.28 seconds in the 100 metre, ahead of his training partner Hank Palmer, who took second place.
Macrozonaris has had a stellar start to his season. He has already beat his best time for 2007. He had already clocked in at 10.29 seconds. "I have never had such a good outdoor season. Normally, I run within 10.40 seconds. I'm really happy," he said in a telephone interview with the Courrier Laval. "I was able to really run well. It's a reasonably high level of competition in Guadeloupe. It's encouraging for me this season to win this race and to run that fast," he said. Marcrozonaris was slightly injured in the finale.
He also won the silver medal in the 200m. This time, roles were reversed when Hank Palmer advanced first over the finish line.
Unfortunately, Macrozonaris was supposed to participate in the 28th edition of the Colonial Invitation in Fort de France, Martinique on April 5th but declared a forfeit because of an injury to his leg. "It's not a terrible injury, but it keeps me from competing with intensity," he said. He also had to be absent from a training camp with the Canadian Relay team in Louisana, United States. The Canadian 100 m champion appreciated the support from Athleticism Canada. "I consulted some doctors. We were understood (me and Athleticism Canada) that I should stay in Canada and take care of my injury."
To Beijing
After the Sydney Games (2000) and Athens (2004) the Canadian quadruple champion in the 100 m will participate in his third Olympic games in Beijing this summer. He has to reach a time of 10.13 seconds. "I am still confident, as always."
