Basil Parasiris in Longueuil Court: accused of slaying Laval police constable Daniel Tessier
Basis Parsasiris, accused of the first-degree murder of Laval Police officer Daniel Tessier in March of 2007, appeared in court in Longueuil this past Monday.
For the time being, there is a publication ban on any information coming out of the preliminary inquest presided over by Judge Guy Cournoyer, a former prosecutor at the Gomery Commission.
In the proceedings, the Crown is represented by prosecutor Joëlle Saint-Germain, with lawyer Jacques Larochelle leading the defense team.
Basil Parasiris is facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder, the result of gun fire which erupted in his Brossard home March 2, 2007. The gun fire incident cost Laval policeman Daniel Tessier his life.
The accused is pleading self-defense, affirming that when police officers entered his home, he believed a home invasion was in progress and that his reflex was to open fire.
Jury selection for the trial will begin this coming Tuesday.
