Eighth Annual One Birth, One Tree Program rewards newborns of Laval families
Ville de Laval will once again offer the families of Laval children born between June 2007 and May 2008 a Japanese Lilac tree (Syringa reticulta), under the auspices of the One Birth One Tree Program.
To qualify for the gift, you must be a resident of Laval, have had a child in the last 12 months, dating back to June 2007, and be registered with the city's Department of Community Life, Culture and Communications before Saturday, May 23.
When claiming your tree, you must show proof of birth for your child (birth certificate, medicare card or equivalent document). Registration is obligatory as the supply of trees is limited.
Libraries, too!
For their part, all public libraries in the Laval-Laurentides-Lanaudière region offer their own One Birth One Book Program to families of newborns, a gift-package that includes a copy of a hard-cover book in the Dominique & Compagnie series, a reader's guide and a copy of an issue of the Enfants-Québec magazine.
This initiative supports the development of reading in children and the discovery of the pleasure of literature. More than 2500 Laval children have benefited from this program in the last 7 years. Gift packages can be claimed at local public libraries without need of registration. The gifts will be handed out while quantities last.
