Totally "Maboul" (As loony as they come)!
Cabaret brings Just For Laughs to Laval
With the Maboul cabaret, the Just For Laughs Festival returns to Laval with a grand production of humour and magic which will appeal to the whole family.
"For this exclusive creation, we've brought home the top ten of our trips across the world and placed this funny show in the hands of Stéphane Crête," says Francis Simard of Just For Laughs.

"It’s more of a variety show than a circus, with inspiration drawn from the great hits of Vaudeville. I want to get out of the traditional cabaret and jump into a more theatrical and modern form. I want to shift the public's perception of humour," says Stéphane Crête, who's doing more and more staging and directing as time passes.

Acrobatics, dancing, high-wire, the performers come from various disciplines to converge into a unique concept – Maboul.

"I want to play on the contrasts to bring out the magic in each of these styles. Why not think of diabolo in the kitchen, a form of magic emerging from the minute details of daily living," Stéphane Crête explains.
The constellation
Maboul is composed of artists whose daily challenge is to defy the laws of gravity and the principles of physics. One of these is Anatoli Zalewski, one of the world's greatest balancing acts; another is tightrope walker Audrey Ivaknenko; add to the list Natalia Leontieva, who can transform a hula hoop into shades of mystifying acrobatics, juggler and diabolo artist Tony Frebourg, and contortionist Artium Riis, who loves to be boxed in. The Maboul cast is completed by the male woodwind quartet of Chicos Mambos.
"I'm going to encourage the spontaneous creativity of all the artists. I myself have often worked in a 'gang' situation. We're going to quickly develop into a family because the pleasure of the audience is derived from the fun being had by the performers on stage," emphasizes Crête, who performs as Brad in A galaxy near you, and who is also a member of the Momentum group who have captured the imagination of Just For Laughs.
The Maboul Cabaret of the Just For Laughs Festival, staged and directed by Stéphane Crête, comes to Laval's Salle-André Mathieu July 12 to 20, at 8:00 pm (475 de l'Avenir Blvd.) Information: (450) 667-2040.
