The <@Jeunes au travail<@$p> farm: season of plenty for young workers and people of Laval
Enjoying the best the soil has to offer, while giving growing responsibilities to young people
In the last few weeks, the dynamics of farming have come front and centre at the Jeunes au travail farm project, which opened its doors to the public on July 5.
Unfolding within a framework of – celebrating the new (growing) season – the launching of the project in early July also gave the team of participants an opportunity to officially showcase their new commercial kitchen and display their new garden of medicinal plants.
Social involvement
The annual “Open House” gives visitors an opportunity to spend a few hours in the fields, to become fully immersed in the milieu through which dozens of young people get a taste of work each year.
More than just an agricultural enterprise, the Jeunes au travail farm offers a six-month paid work experience for young people ages 16 to 25 who find themselves in various difficult situations.
Open to the public
Between now and the end of October, the public can procure organic fruits and vegetables at the farm, open seven days a week. Also available for purchase are fine herbs, dry fruit, pasta, rice, vegetables, hand-made soap, coffee and chocolate, and various organic household products, all at fair prices.
Other services available at the farm are: meeting rooms for the public to rent, wood for stoves, and organic plants. Visitors can also come to appreciate the culinary talents and skills of the young chefs and cooks, every day at lunch. Reservations, however, are obligatory 24 hours in advance.
