Former Titan Georges Laraque signs with Canadiens
A Laval favourite son comes home
Georges Laraque, NHL veteran and one of hockey's toughest players, has decided to come home, or at least as close to home as Montreal is to Laval.
Laraque, who played for now-defunct Titan de Laval (College Français) of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 1994-95, has signed a three-year deal worth well over $3 million with the Montreal Canadiens in early July. He becomes the third former Titan to don the Habs colours, joining Francis Bouillon and Patrice Brisebois.
A winner
Now plying his trade mostly as an enforcer (with lots of good hockey-playing smarts), Laraque is no stranger to high-level performance, scoring 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists) in just 11 games with the 94-95 Titans.
Now very happy to be a member of the most-storied and fabled franchise in the history of professional hockey, the strong man, who has called Saint-François home in the past, also played junior hockey for the Saint-Hyacinthe Laser, before moving on to Granby, where he was instrumental in helping the Prédateurs win the Memorial Cup (emblematic of Canadian major junior hockey supremacy), in 1995-96.
