Sainte-Rose en bleu inherits proud tradition of summer family celebrations
Festival comes to life August 5 to 10
Vieux Sainte-Rose has found itself a colour – blue. Its traditional summer festival will now be called Sainte-Rose en bleu. Its inaugural edition will unfold over a six-day period, Tuesday, August 5 to Sunday, August 10. The people of the district have already been invited to 'turn blue', as have been the merchants of Sainte-Rose Boulevard who'll be sporting blue decorations all over their establishments.
So it's done. The previous title of Grandes fêtes de Sainte-Rose is history. The festival's program, however, remains similar, including a series of major concerts, activities for the whole family, and a showpiece event – the grand fireworks show to cap off the week.

"Blue pyrotechnics are the most expensive of all colours and the most delicate to deliver. A fireworks show usually features blue content of 1% - 2%; but here, people can expect blue content of at least 20%," says Guy Cyr, president of the Laval Children's Museum, the organizer of the festival.
Potential
The Grand feu bleu, 22 minutes long, will close the festival Sunday, August 10, following a concert of the Laval Symphony Orchestra, with Michel Rivard. To accentuate the blue aspect of the six-day celebration, Sainte-Rose-de-Lima Church will be lit in blue. Children attending the festival can add their own 'happy blues' to the festival by helping build a tall totem pole in the colours of the celebration.
"It's just the beginning. A festival of this kind has enormous potential for the development of new dimensions, particularly in the realm of cultural attractions. The colour blue will complement and promote the culture and spirit of the celebration," notes Mr. Cyr.
The Dance
The festival kicks off with a night of dancing revelry on Tuesday, August 5, as DJs and performers converge on the banks of the Rivière des Mille-Îles for the Blue électronique, an event which promises to be electrifying. "We'll have local artists and others from across Canada," weighs in Julien Aidelbaum of La Scène 1425 of Salle André-Mathieu, which is collaborating with the festival's organizing committee.
Still with an eye to those who are light on their feet, for dance lovers of all stripes an evening of Dances of the World will follow a picnic organized for children of day camps, Thursday, August 7.
Music and magic
Magician Alain Choquette performs an evening of blue magic, Wednesday, August 6, with Renée Martel joining in next day, August 7, with the first of three summer concerts of country music from today and yesteryear.
On the concluding weekend, August 9, 10 – the festival will feature rides on the mini-train for children, tam tam concerts, a performance of l'Harmonie de Laval, and other activities for all ages. Also on the program: an evening of poetry and prose in collaboration with the Société littéraire de Laval, and a Blue Velvet concert that will feature the Laval Youth String Orchestra, le Grand ensemble de musique urbaine, a repertoire of Quebec songs and a tribute to Frank Sinatra.
The Sainte-Rose en bleu summer festival takes place August 5 to 10, in Vieux-Sainte-Rose. Information: (450) 628-9374.
