Proud to be part of an organization that positively affects so many lives
Says Evie Applebee, founder-president of Golda Meir (Chomedey) Chapter of Montreal-Hadassah-WIZO
In a little corner of this vast universe of ours, Chomedey to be exact, a group of women gather regularly to celebrate in friendship and through the common bonds of what brings people together – respect for others and consideration of the need to stay active, committed, and open to learning.
Their workshops, projects, excursions, and general program of activities reflect a tried and true principle of productive lives – that …"No matter how deep our penetration of truth, we can always learn more of the mystery of others. No matter how profoundly we love, we can always love more."

Who are these denizens of determination who reach out week after week into this community of communities to bring to their gatherings a marvelous buffet of professional guest speakers who are all on the cutting edge of their fields, ranging from historians to healers, and including doctors, lawyers, and candlestick makers?

They are the Golda Meir (Chomedey) Chapter of Montreal Hadassah-WIZO, and they have been an important and vital element in the social-cultural life of Chomedey and Laval since the group was founded in 2003 by Evie Applebee, known to many in the community as simply ‘Evie’ – a dynamic and rarely dissuaded mover and groover who knows no other way of doings things than by doing them with care, concern, and completeness.
What is Hadassah all about
”We are part of Canadian Hadassah-WIZO (CHW),” Mrs. Applebee recently told Courrier Laval. “We are involved in promoting many worthy causes, including some in Israel."
With a focus on children, healthcare, and women, CHW, says Mrs. Applebee, supports a variety of projects in different centers and organizations including the Hadassin Youth Village, which provides education and boarding to over 1,000 students; the Netanya Technical School, giving vocational education in small, enriched classes, teaching skills such as hairdressing, woodworking, mechanics, and diamond-cutting; the Hadassah Hospital, which includes two university hospitals; and the Assaf Harofef Medical Centre, a general hospital serving half-a-million people, including the poorest area in Israel comprised of Jews, Muslims, and Christians alike (this center also houses Israel’s first alternative medical clinic).

Founded in 1917, as a non-political, volunteer-driven initiative, CHW has grown to become Canada's leading Jewish Women's philanthropic organization, with a dynamic membership of 10,000 and Centres in over 40 locations across Canada.

"We are very proud to be part of an organization that reaches out to touch so many lives, and the Chomedey Chapter of Montreal Hadassah-WIZO is determined to make a difference in the lives of people in need, wherever they may be," Mrs. Applebee sums up.
