In the swim of things at Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board
It will be the green light for both athletes and recreational water lovers at the beginning of the next decade as the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board and partners, (including Ville de Laval and Mouvement Aquatique Laval) pool their resources to build a top-of the line Aquatic Centre on the grounds of Laurier Senior High and Laval Junior High schools.

According to the feasibility study, the Laval Aquatic Centre will be attached to the schools presently occupying the building at 2323 Daniel Johnson, administered by the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board – Laurier Senior High and Mother Teresa Junior High.
The plans call for the four gymnasiums used by the two schools to be linked to the new amphitheatre, to be built on land owned by the school board.

The Mouvement Aquatique Laval (MAL) has been working on the project since 2005. "It took three years to complete the plans, but the City Council's executive committee moved very quickly on the resolution. It was done fast, but without the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board, we would have been nowhere," admitted Philippe Comtois, one of the major forces behind the project. "The school board has no swimming pools linked to its Laval schools. It wants its aquatic centre," emphasized Mr. Comtois, who believes the centre can open its doors in 2011. "I'd like the centre to open sooner, but we have to be realistic. It's a very big project."
Large-scale
Anne-Marie Lepage, SWLSB director-general, declined to give too many details about the proposal. "We'll be discussing it at the Council of Commissioners meeting in January. We're at the preliminary stages of this large-scale project, but when it comes to improving services to the clientele, our students and the population, we're always interested," she added.
The director-general had no idea as to the time frame for the completion of the project, indicating that the school board is presently looking for partners in the venture. "It will all depend on the answers we get to our requests for government subsidies, and on the time needed to confirm partnership agreements."
Pools and slides
The complex will contain three major parts, with at least one 50 m by 25 m pool, including 10 lanes, with provisions for curtains which would create two 25 m pools. The second block would include a diving pool with 3 m springboard and towers of 5, 7, and 10 m. The third part will be for recreational purposes, with slides sure to please water lovers of all ages. The complex will also have stands accommodating 500 spectators, a sauna and of course, dressing rooms for families as well as for men and women.
