Guy Ouellette wins second mandate from Chomedey voters
But less than 45% voted in Liberal stronghold
Chomedey voters elected to stay home this past Monday, rather than go out to vote. But despite the lowest turn out in the region, those that did vote gave Liberal incumbent Guy Ouellette a more comfortable margin than in 2007.
The reelected MNA who's in his second mandate, promises to make more effort to understand the voters in his corner of the island. "We have sizeable communities of Greeks, Armenians, and Portuguese. These will be the first groups I'll look at, to see if the vote came out," Mr. Ouellette indicated.

From 62.9% in 2007, the turnout dropped to 44.8% in the riding, the biggest decline in Laval. According to Mr. Ouellette, a preliminary cause of the poor turnout can be traced to a breakdown in access to information at a crucial period of the day when the Liberal team was concentrating on getting out the vote.
PQ nucleus
The Green Party of Quebec appears to have suffered from the fall-out of a shift in voting patterns, dropping to 2.47%, from 3.64% in 2007. Québec solidaire, on the other hand, maintained its share at 2.19%. As for the PQ, support grew to 20.9% from 15.2% in 2007, the total staying around the traditional 5,000 (5,218) votes it usually garners in the Anglophone/allophone riding which has sent Liberals to Quebec City in every election since 1960.
"Good year, bad year, you can count on 5,000 PQ supporters. They succeeded in getting out their vote," explained Mr. Ouellette, adding that in any case, neither Jonathon Cyr (PQ) nor Josée Granger (QS) made much of an appearance in the riding during the campaign. Perennial Marxist-Leninist candidate Polyvios Tsakanikas managed to draw support from 234 voters (0.93%).
Homogeneous vote
Guy Ouellette believes the new mandate given the Liberals represents an opportunity to face the impeding economic crisis with a unified front. He's very happy with the homogeneous situation in Laval, with all five ridings electing Liberals.

"Mr. Vaillancourt has often said: a mayor of a city and region, combined with a Liberal team that works together, now that's a force," Mr. Ouellette concluded.
