A free ride on a rainy summer day will come in very handy for children under 12. The STL offers the privilege until September 7 to all kids of this age accompanied by an adult.

Free STL bus rides for children under 12 extended over entire summer period
La Société de transport de Laval (STL) has extended its free public transit services for children under 12. Previously available only on weekends and holidays to children of this age accompanied by an adult, the free rides now cover the entire summer period ending September 7, all week.
The free rides are accessible to all families, regardless of whether they live in Laval. As well, children registered in day camps can travel free on STL busses provided they are accompanied by their camp counselors.
The measure is designed by STL officials to encourage children to become familiar with public transit, with the eventual goal of contributing significantly to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
In the same vein, the STL will charge only $1 for anyone 12 and over riding its busses during days of an official smog alert. (D.H.)
