Putting the spotlight on community service
Local group ADLI aims to raise funds for worthy causes
Four exceptionally dedicated individuals who have devoted countless hours in the service of young people of the community have embarked on a project that will reap substantial rewards for a number of worthy causes.
Headed by Alan De Souza, this non-profit charitable organization called ADLI intends to produce stage shows to raise funds for groups in the Greater Montreal/Laval North Shore Region that depend on donations for survival.
“But we want to do this by providing quality entertainment for the donors and invaluable experience for young people whose skills and talents are oriented toward organizing and participating in stage productions such as fashion shows, talent contests, variety revues, plays, and dance exhibitions,” says Mr. De Souza, the current Special Education Technician and Job Placement Officer at Laurier Senior High School, where he has produced fashion shows for the past eight years.
Mr. De Souza, who also helped found the IRS (Intelligent and Responsible Students) organization at Laval Catholic High (as Laurier Senior High was known prior to 2005), has brought on board three other veterans of stage shows at the schools – Dominic Di Stefano, Lina Varano, and Isabelle McClure, all of whom have worked with Mr. De Souza at Laval Catholic/Laurier Senior High School for several years. Mr. Di Stefano is the Spiritual Animator, Lina Varano is an involved parent, and Isabelle McClure teaches French.
Calling all past participants
“When we put out the first call for past participants of Laval Catholic/Laurier Senior High School stage productions to join us in this quest for community achievement, we were impressed with the number of people who responded,” Mr. De Souza told Courrier Laval Weekly News. “We are close to holding our first organizational meeting and once again extend an open invitation to anyone who would like to become a part of this excellent initiative for community involvement and commitment to artistic excellence,” Mr. De Souza specified.
Although he expects the ADLI group to generate interest from alumni of stage productions at Laval Catholic/Laurier Senior High School, Mr. De Souza emphasizes that the door is open to anyone in the community who would like to lend a helping hand.
“We will welcome anyone from anywhere who is looking for opportunities to lend a helping hand for worthy causes,” says Mr. De Souza, who can be reached at (514) 862-9223 for more information. You can also get information at adliproductions@yahoo.ca
If you want to attend ADLI's first organizational meeting, you can visit this coming Wednesday, March 21, at Laurier Senior High School, 2323 Daniel-Johnson, in Chomedey. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm. "Come and relive the moment and enjoy the stage with sound and lights, all in fashion," Mr. De Souza says to everyone in general and fashion-show graduates of Laval Catholic Laurier Senior High School in particular. "We're looking forward to seeing you all there.!"
