10,000 expected at Ninth Annual Route des fleurs Artists Symposium
Laval initiative wins 2007 Grand Prix in tourism
With spring comes the return of the annual gathering of Laval painters, at the 9th Symposium of Artists taking place along the Route des fleurs on May 5 and 6 in the flower nurseries of Ste-Dorothée.
There is no better time than at this symposium for Laval to showcase its reputation as the horticultural capital of Quebec, at this grand celebration when and where people and painters are brought together for the pleasure of visual art.

Last year 7,000 visitors joined the party. This year, the organizers of the event – the Quartier des arts du Cheval blanc – are expecting 10,000.

The invited artist for the Symposium is landscape painter Georges Dudoyard. "All the artists will have the chance to show their work. It's the start of the flower season, I could no nothing less than accept the invitation," Mr. Dudoyard emphasized.

"It's a beautiful family gathering for Laval painters and a rare occasion for us to meet the people," echoes painter Gerald Trudel, the recent winner of a bronze medal at the Carousel du Musée du Louvre in Paris.
An agro-touristic voyage
Visitors are invited to come and share their travel souvenirs with about a hundred participating artists who will paint on the spot, showing their work and their skills and talents in different styles.
Along an 11.5 kilometer route, visitors can enjoy guided tours, food tasting, plant-life, organic foods and the discovery of a diversity of horticultural delights and the various dimensions of an organic farm.
A mosaic
The big tent in Gamache Park will once again be the main venue of the Symposium. Set up in the public square in Ste-Dorothée, the site will offer a canteen, an information kiosk, information about the exhibitors and a shuttle service, with music provided by various groups throughout the event. This is also where the May 6 prize draw will take place at 4:30 pm.
Everyone can take part in the creation of a first – A Grand Mosaic For Visitors, to be emceed by Sylvie Garland. "Maybe people will discover hidden talents they never thought they had!" Mrs. Garland confided at the launch of the Symposium on April 2.

An exposition of the works of volunteers and members of the organizing committee will also be offered at the Yves-Thériault Library.
The tourism prize
The most recent edition of the Route des fleurs Artists Symposium was awarded the 2007 Grand Prix du tourisme québécois prize. "It's a nice reward for the entire team and the volunteers. It's a nice way of introduction when we present our event in places outside Laval," proudly states Symposium chairperson Sylvie Brezeau.
The honourary chairperson of the event is Fabre MNA Michelle Courchesne. Good weather or not the caprices of Mother Nature will have little effect on the event since the activities can also be held indoors.
