The Laval Volunteer Centre needs you
Children, seniors, and visitors need a bit of your time
As you no doubt know, there are always too many needs and not enough people to fulfill them in this supposedly affluent society of ours in which on too many occasions too many of our friends and neighbours in need are left to fend for themselves through unavoidable circumstances.
And when family or professional services cannot tend to the needs of men, women, and children who cannot do it for themselves, the responsibility is left to community organizations such as the Laval Volunteer Centre who pick up the slack.

Did you know that the Laval Volunteer Centre offers, among its large number of programs, a Homework Assistance Service in Chomedey and Laval-des-Rapides for elementary school children, a companionship and accompaniment service for seniors, and a meet and greet service for the Third Annual Mondial Choral?

If you are interested helping out with any of these programs or would like to get help for yourself or for your child or grandchild, the Laval Volunteer Centre would like to hear from you.
What's expected
The process for getting involved in any of these programs is quite simple, and the time required is only a few hours a week.
For the homework assistance program, you would be supervising the child's work for a couple of hours a week, guiding him or her through some of the basic tasks required in doing homework properly.

In the seniors companionship program, you would be spending a few hours a week (about half-a-day) visiting an elderly person, in an exchange of news and views of mutual interest, and the sharing of some common hobbies and diversions – card games, literature, music.

If you would like to be of further help to someone in need, you could accompany the person to a medical appointment or simply keep the person company on errands he or she needs to run. If you own a car, all the better as it would make the traveling much easier.

And if you like music, choir singing, and meeting people, then the Laval Mondial Choral is for you. People are needed for welcoming committees, security services, and as sources of information at kiosks set up during the month-long festival returning to Laval this summer.

If you would like to visit The Laval Volunteer Centre in person, it is located at 1870 Michelin Street, in Laval. Please call (450) 681-6164 in advance for visiting times and appointments for information.
