Des Cedres School Orchestra wins honourable mention
At North American Music Festival in New York
Laval’s Ecole des Cedres took away the honourable mention prize for excellence in string orchestra.
Directed by Sylvie Allaire, the young musicians scored 254 out of a possible 300 points. The 25 grade six students were the youngest orchestra in their category. In the competition held in New York, the young orchestra of Fabreville school played pieces by Verdi, Vivaldi, and Moussorsgsky.
The orchestra tuned up for the New York competition with a concert for their classmates held in the school gymnasium just a few days before they left for the music festival.
At last year’s Boston Heritage Festival, the orchestra took top honours in their category with an impressive score of 297.5 points out of a possible 300.
