2007 Poppy Campaign vivid reminder of ultimate sacrifices made for others
We are at that time of year, when our Legionnaires will go out to the public promoting awareness of the poppy as a symbol of Remembrance in memory of Canadian soldiers who gave their lives in two World Wars, the Korean War, peacekeeping missions and successive operations including Afghanistan, to defend democracy, secure freedom for the masses and attain peace for tomorrow.
The Poppy Campaign is designed to raise awareness and funds for needy Canadian Veterans and their dependents as well as Commonwealth veterans of World War II and others who may be eligible for assistance. This year’s campaign began October 26th and will continue until November 10th, with November 11th being reserved as the Day of Remembrance when Canadians pause in remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.

This date represents the armistice of the First World War, when Memorial Services are held across Canada, from sea to sea to sea. We will be holding an Armistice Supper that weekend, on Saturday, November 10th.

The poppy is a symbol of tribute to the more than 117,000 Canadians who have died in the service of the country, either in the military, the merchant navy or other war-time agencies which supported the war effort. Since adopted, the poppy has become one of the most widely recognized symbols in Canada. We are always looking for volunteers, new members and the generosity of the community. If interested in supporting the cause of the Legion and our Poppy Campaign, or becoming a new member, kindly give us a call or drop in at 2000 Labelle Blvd. (450) 681- 6722

The 2007 campaign will include, for the first time, a poppy sticker in addition to the regular lapel poppy with a pin. The sticker, which features a stylized red poppy with a black centre and black outline, is not a replacement for the lapel poppy. Instead, it is meant to serve another segment of the population.
