Eighth annual production brings contribution of 200 young people to school’s stage

This year’s Laurier Senior High School fashion show production, in preparation for several months, will soon showcase the various talents of about 200 students whose skills, time, effort and energy have been mobilized by a handful of advisors with several specific purposes in mind: to offer the young people an exceptional learning experience to complement their classroom performance; to mount a show of shows to dazzle even the most knowledgeable fashion experts; to raise funds for a number of charitable organizations, to entertain families, friends, and classmates of the cast, crew and organizing committee.
“Year in and year out, young men and young women pour their hearts out for this extraordinary project that brings out the best that the Laurier Senior High Community has to offer,” says senior advisor Alan De Souza who has coordinated nine ‘Shows With Fashion’ in the past eight years.
“One year” he adds, “we had such a good time that we put on two shows, all of course for the benefit of not only the hundreds of students involved but also for the school community-at-large.
This is a major undertaking which, without the support of teachers, administrators and support staff could never come to life. But thankfully, there's plenty of that at Laurier Senior High School and that’s why these projects are so successful, both artistically and pedagogically,” Mr. De Souza, the Laurier Student Technician and Job Placement Officer told Courrier Laval.
Assisting Mr. De Souza in the management, coordination, and implementation of the project are spiritual animator Dominic Di Stefano and parent volunteer Lina Varano, both of whom have been associated with fashion shows for many years.
”These two are crucial to the success of everything we do,” admits Mr. De Souza. “Their
experienced hand and their wonderful sense of humour are a God-send to me, to the organizing committee and to rest of the young people we serve as advisors. And this year we are also blessed to have teacher Isabelle Boucher helping out. Her contribution has added another positive force to the goals we’re trying to accomplish.”
The 2007 Laurier Senior High School Show With Fashion – Attraction, opens a three-night run on Thursday, November 29, at 7:30 pm, followed by another 7:30 pm performance Friday, November 30. The curtain falls for this year on closing night Saturday, December 1, starting at 7:00 pm.
