Remembering at Twin Oaks Elementary School
On Wednesday, November 7, 2007 our grade 6 students, under the guidance of teacher Sharon St. Maurice hosted a luncheon for 40 war vets and members of National Defense. This third annual luncheon at Twin Oaks Elementary School was once again extremely well-received by the visiting veterans, who sat and ate with the young people. It was an excellent opportunity for the young people to ask questions of the older generation so they could better understand the significance of Remembrance Day. Entertainment of various forms was provided by our students. On Friday, November 8, at 10:45 AM, all of our students assembled in the gymnasium for our Remembrance Day Ceremony. We followed the same formal ceremony as is done on Parliament Hill every year. Our grade 6 students built a cenotaph for the ceremony and all of the classes lay wreathes made with their own hands.
I am very proud of the fact that Twin Oaks Elementary places such a strong emphasis on "remembering". I believe that it is an important extension of the education they receive at school.
