Firefighters create Christmas magic for 500 of Laval's most deserving children
Just under 500 children from economically disadvantaged families of Laval took part in the 5th annual Laval Firefighters Magic Christmas last weekend.
Organized under the auspices of the Laval Volunteer Centre's Christmas Baskets Campaign, the event brought together firefighters and parents and children in a celebration of Christmas with all the trimmings, including presents.
"In some cases, there are parents who cannot even give their children the basics, so when they see them receiving gifts they are very touched," said Richard Carpentier, president of the Laval Firefighters Association.
Of the 550 children invited, 495 were in attendance. "Of the ones that could not come for one reason or another, we have their names and addresses and we'll bring the gifts to them," Mr. Carpentier explained. The Laval Firefighters Magic Christmas in expected to return for a 6th edition next year.
