Tragic week-end for young couple
Off on a romantic week-end, two young Laval residents suffered a tragic end last weekend in Lanaudiere when their car collided with a mini-van.
According to Mélanie Paul, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec in Laval, des Laurentides and Lanaudière regions, the collision which took the lives of the young Laval couple was caused by bad road conditions.
At about 10:30 am, while proceeding east on le chemin de l'Église in Chertsey, the car Valérie Lacoste-Chalifoux and Jean-Philip Cournoyer, both 25, were riding in went out of control and ended up perpendicular to the road. The driver of a mini-van coming from the opposite direction was unfortunately unable to avoid colliding with the young couple's car. The two Laval residents died on the spot, while the occupants of the other vehicle suffered only minor injuries.
"The accident occurred on a curve, where the road was very slippery," reports SQ officer Mélanie Paul. "Speed was not a factor in the incident."
Tribute on the internet
The day following the tragedy, relatives of the two victims quickly created on the popular Internet Facebook website, a group page for tributes to the two young people.
By early week, many friends, colleagues and acquaintances of Valérie Lacoste-Chalifoux and Jean-Philip Cournoyer had left many messages of hope for the families of the young couple.
