CSST’s Youth Violence Prevention program draws participation of thousands
Fourteen Laval island schools are participating in the 2007-2008 Youth Violence Prevention Program organized by the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CSST). In all, 5447 young people from all levels are benefiting by educational activities whose aim is to counteract youth violence in schools.
These school projects enjoyed from an infusion of $3300 from the CSST, with various themes proposed to students: accidents in schools, violence in the school milieu, the negative effects of back-packs, health and safety on farms, and ‘my first job’.
Among the projects presently underway, two from classes at the Monseigneur Laval pavilion of the Commission scolaire de Laval’s École Quatre Vents are of particular note. Under the theme of Peace, harmony and prudence children of these pre-school classes (pictured) are preparing a variety show focusing on simple measures that can be used to counteract violence. The production will be presented in June. The project was given a $200 grant by the CSST. (G.F.).
