Spring is in the air
The Laval en Fleurs Society, in collaboration with the Centre de la Nature de Laval, will soon welcome spring in celebration of the awakening of the land to the charms of warm weather and blooming flowers.
The people of Laval are invited to this celebration, in conjunction with the opening of the horticultural season, this coming Sunday, May 18, starting at 1:30 pm at the Nature Centre's greenhouse, at 901 Avenue du Parc, at parking lot P2.
At the event, the society will unveil its 2008 calendar of activities and reveal both the theme and the winner of a photo contest held in recent weeks.
As well, children accompanied by their parents will receive a horticultural gift, a seedling that will encourage them to start their own initiation into the world of seeding, nursing, nourishing, and renewing the earth's plant life.
Tours of the nursery and visits to the ecological gardens are also on the agenda for the afternoon's program. For further information: lavalenfleurs.com
The gift of flowers
Also in keeping with the celebration of the arrival of Spring, Laval residents are invited to city hall on Saturday, May 24, starting at 8:30 pm, for Laval's annual Grand Floral Festival of Spring.
On this occasion Laval en Fleurs , in collaboration with Ville de Laval, will give out as gifts annuals, perennials and a two litres of planting soil. Children will be treated to balloons and the gift of a Lavatière, the floral emblem of the city of Laval. Proof of residence will be required.
On site for the day will be a number of horticultural experts who will share knowledge, insight and manuals related to plant life and to the environment.
