Canada Day celebrations in Laval drew the participation of about 50,000 revelers who took time to enjoy the festivities organized for the country's 141st birthday.
In the morning, 27 people pledged the oath of allegiance through which they officially adopted the country as their new home, an event which is always emotionally-charged for those who come here to start a new life.

In the afternoon, tens of thousands converged at the Centre de la Nature de Laval where they enjoyed free activities such as pony rides, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking and other water sports on the artificial lake, and visits to nurseries and flower gardens.

"We really had a great day of excellent weather, a rare occurrence if I can say so from experience. It's the biggest Canada Day celebration we've had in a good ten years," summed up event coordinator Claude Viau.
A genial Zachary
In the evening, a crowd of 30,000 was richly entertained by the Laval folk dancing group – Les Pieds Leger, before having their musical day capped off with an exciting performance by Zachary Richard.
The fireworks, which brought a fitting end to the celebration, were even more successful than in previous years. "We brought the action closer to the people, a change which was much appreciated because the magnificent display filled the night sky right above their heads," Mr. Viau concluded.
