Quite a few football players who call Laval home were part of two Quebec all-star teams that won championships at the 2008 Canada Cup of Football, held in mid-July at the stadiums of the University of Sherbrooke and Bishop's University.
Quebec's U-17 team captured its second successive national championship, disposing of Southern Alberta 24-0 in the final. Laval's Mehdi Abdesmad (Cégep Vieux-Montreal), Alexandre Dasilva and Alboury Ndao (both of Les Loups de Curé-Antoine-Labelle), and Theodore Bekelis (Laval Liberty High School) were major contributors to the team's win.

Quarterback Alexandre Dasilva's fourth quarter five-yard touchdown toss to Mehdi Abdesmad was the backbreaker against Southern Alberta, giving Quebec their biggest and final lead at 24-0. Dasilva also went on a 14-yard scamper in the final quarter.

Mehdi added some brilliant defensive play to his touchdown, making four tackles. He also returned an interception for 15 yards. Theodore Bekelis was equally exceptional on defense, sacking the quarterback and making two tackles. The Quebec defense was stellar throughout the match, allowing just a single first down in the opening half.
U-19
Inspired by the U-17 win the day before, Quebec's U-19 completed the twin wins for La Belle Province with a 37-11 conquest of Alberta.

Laval's Gabriel Cousineau (Collège Montmorency), Alexandre Bernard (Laval Bulldogs and Cégep Vieux-Montréal), Pascal Lochard and Philippe Lamarche (both of Vieux-Montréal), and Jean-Samuel Blanc (Mont Saint-Louis) were all instrumental in Quebec's U-19 national championship.

Lochard ran 19 yards on seven carries, with Bernard and Blanc each making a tackle in the victory.
