Chomedey Chapter JWIC on the road again
On Monday August 11th, Chomedey Chapter JWIC went by deluxe motorcoach to Quebec City for the day.

In anticipation of rain and the cool forecasted weather, everyone was well equipped with umbrellas and jackets. Nothing would deter our enthusiasm for the trip. But lo and behold once we were on our way, our prayers were answered. Out came the sun in full brilliance and off came the jackets.

Once we arrived in Quebec City, we started with a guided walking tour with “Debra” the local tour guide who demonstrated the historic sights and landmarks. We continued with a 1-l/2 hour bus tour by our very professional and deeply knowledgeable driver, Lester Percs, whose commentaries of historic relevance and his upbeat explanations truly delighted us, all along the way. We visited beautiful Montmorency Falls, were able to enjoy some of Quebec City’s wonderful and picturesque 400th anniversary celebrations, including strolling musicians, street artists, magnificent murals as well as numerous shops and restaurants.

Shalom Quebec’s Jewish exhibition, Same Cloth, Different Threads: The Jews of Quebec was a real treat. Set up in the “Station de la Gare” train station, the presentation illustrates the fascinating history of the Jews in Quebec City, dating back to the times of New France.

What a special opportunity to discover and delve into a part of Quebec’s rich history focusing on the contributions of Jewish people and showcasing events of the last 400 years linked to the Jewish community, with pictures and names of some of the early Jewish settlers in Quebec City, pictures of the Torahs, lots of Jewish memorabilia, and of course what would a fantastic celebration of this kind be without delicious bagels.

We also toured upper-town and lower-town Quebec, the Chateau Frontenac Hotel, took a ride on the funicular and braved our way up and down the cobbled stone streets which give Quebec City so much of its character and charm.

What a magnificent day! A memorable excursion enjoyed by all! An unforgettable experience to be cherished forever!

All participants agreed unanimously that once again it was a super-duper trip, and Chomedey Chapter JWIC began asking how the next trip could be made even better. By the way, the rain, the thunder, and lightning did come, but only when we were safely on the bus, 95% home, and while it stopped by the time we arrived, it didn’t seem to make one bit of difference to the great time had by all.

The Chomedey Chapter JWIC, whose mission is to end violence against women, is proud to be able to offer events such as these, open to the public (men and women). Through these interesting, educational, informative, and exciting programs we are doing our part to support the community and help people come together in harmony and friendship.

For more information on any of the Chapter's upcoming events, or how you can become a member of this productive and constructive organization, please contact Sheila Kirstenberg, at (450) 688-6324, or Lily Percs at (450) 688-0026.
