Robert Carrier (BQ)
The candidate
Bloc Québécois Member of Parliament since 2004, Robert Carrier is his party's parliamentary (House of Commons) critic and spokesperson for matters of Revenue, Finance and Transportation. For twenty years, between 1984 and 2004, he served as project manager for the Quebec Housing Corporation. He was also project manager for the Ministry of Supply and Services from 1980 to1984 and political advisor to the Quebec Ministry of Transport. From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Carrier was the Bloc Québécois treasurer for the then riding association of Laval-East.
What are the main issues in the riding?
As was the case during his last mandate, Robert Carrier believes it is important to build new social (low-rent) housing units in his riding, because there is an urgent need. In his view, the old Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Penitentiary would be an ideal site for such low-cost social housing, with the added feature that the area could also house various community organizations looking to move to new locations. Other priorities, such as the standard of living of senior citizens and the better organization and management of public transit, continue to be major concerns and priorities for the now twice-elected incumbent who wants to see the development of more reserved lanes for city busses in the near future.
