Tristan Desjardins Drouin (Green Party)
The candidate
The young candidate was born in Duvernay 19 years ago, and still lives there. A graduate of École d'education internationale de Laval, he is currently studying civil engineering at Collège Montmorency. Member of Greenpeace and Équiterre, he is active in the college's Environmental Action and Coordination Committee and in the Équillibre environment group. Tristan Desjardins Drouin was the recipient of numerous awards of distinction, notably the Weston-Garfield Bursary (Collegiate Studies), the Meritas Bursary (civil engineering), and the highest prize for environmental involvement at Montmorency, at the college's annual Soirées des Vinci.
What are the issues in the riding?
More of the region's farms could go organic: only five Laval farms are registered in the 'biological basket' program offered by Équiterre, he notes. Awareness could easily change things in this regard, he believes. "If there's civic interest, more farms will jump on the bandwagon. On other issues, he emphasizes the Harper government's modifications to immigration legislation, shifting the focus to workers, at the expense of the reuniting of families. For the many immigrants living in Saint-François, he thinks these changes could have impact. "A worker will work better if he's happy with his family."
