CSSS de Laval's Health Care Centres go green
An announcement by the Centre de santé et de services sociaux (CSSS) de Laval concerning the region's ecological needs is following in the footsteps of several others that were made public in recent days by other Laval institutions.
Under its auspices, numerous health care facilities on Laval island will 'shift-to-green' as a result of an environmental policy to be applied over the next few years. An annual 'Tree Day' celebration, inaugurated last week at the Cité de la Santé hospital, is the first initiative under this green plan put in place by the CSSS de Laval.
The green plan calls for general reduction of the ecological impact of the organization, prevention of pollution, and lessening of the negative environmental effects produced by the activities of the CSSS institutions, particularly for the benefit of the health of people cared for in these facilities.
Concretely, the CSSS de Laval is aiming to obtain an attestation of "Ici, on recycle – Here, We Recycle", a program created by Recyc-Québec and the certification of "Visez vert - Aim Green" from Boma Québec. The latter recognition covers a wide range of practices, from energy reduction to the use of wholesome and recyclable materials and reduced use of drinking water and maintenance of (clean) air quality.
The CSSS de Laval oversees the management of 18 buildings on Île-Jésus.
