Alia Haddad

Alia Haddad, mother of three, has lived in Laval-des-Rapides for 20 years. Presently teaching in Montreal North, she has taught adults, young people, and those with special needs. She has served as a school commissioner for the Commission scolaire de Laval and on the board's administrative council. As well, she has presided over the administrative council of the CPE Le Hêtre. She is a graduate of UQAM, where she obtained a degree in business administration, specializing in management of computer technology. She also holds a degree in special education.

For Alia Haddad, the priority in the constituency of Laval has just one name – poverty - multiplied in all its facets. "The elderly, those who I call le Bel-Age, tell me that they have to choose between medication and food. In the meantime, the Laval economy is booming." Mrs. Haddad also wants to fight for improved access to health professionals and shorter delays in getting services. She also wants to tackle the problem of waiting lists for public housing. Another crucial concern is support of families and children, more effective juggling of work-family responsibilities for single mothers, raising tax credits from $100 to $350 per child, create 165,000 places in pre-school education, improve access to post-secondary education with more suitable aid to youth. In her second election campaign in Laval, Mrs. Haddad believes it's time to reestablish the social justice mishandled by the current Conservative government.
