Local (district) forums get underway this week
In preparation for next April's Laval Social Forum
Saint-Vincent-de-Paul is the first in a series of nine discussion and reflection forums relating to issues specific to Laval's various districts, the results of which will be tabled at the island-wide Forum Social de Laval to be held in April of 2009.
This coming Wednesday, November 5, residents of Duvernay and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul are invited to 1111 Place Jean-Eudes Blanchard, as of 6:30 pm, to participate in the first of the local forums organized by the Corporation de devéloppement communautaire (CDC) de Laval – the Laval Community Development Corporation.
Divided into several categories, the subjects to be considered will be of interest to many residents: the environment, public services, housing, urban development and management, employment, social inclusion, street problems, culture, democracy, cultural identity, and support of citizens' initiatives are all on the agenda.
Between November 5 and December 2, nine forums will take place in various districts of Laval, following which the organizing committee can get to work on preparing for the general forum scheduled for April 24 to 26 at Collège Montmorency, where the results of debates, discussions, plenary sessions, and thematic workshops will contribute to a 'portrait' of the issues at play on Laval island and to a report that will outline proposals for social transformation.
