Alouettes draft Laval's Martin Bédard
The Montreal Alouettes took Martin Bédard, formerly of the Laval Bulldogs, the Laval Centre-Sud Cowboys and the Spartiates of Cégep Vieux-Montreal (Collegiate AAA), in the second round of the Canadian Football League (CFL) 2009 draft held in early May. He was selected from the roster of the University of Connecticut (Huskies), where he is about to complete a psychology degree. Confident of his chances to make the Als, Bédard will try to earn a spot at tight-end and on special teams. Versatile, he goes to training camp with past experience at quarterback, ball carrier, and tight-end; he can also play defense. He has excelled at all levels of competition, making all-star teams, winning championships and individual trophies. (S.L.)
