Of June in bloom at Chomedey Seniors Club
Another fine season of education, social interaction, cultural diversion, and health-enhancement comes to a close
And so, alas, we come to distances, says the poet, but not for long and not too far for members of the Chomedey Seniors Club whose program committee has lined up another interesting batch of activities for June.
And If memory serves from past experience, members and friends of the club will continue to be well-served by an ad-hoc program committee that organizes some more memorable gatherings to help chase away the summer doldrums that sometimes come visiting in July and August.
As for June, the month starts off on the 4th with a visit from Larry Sidel, vice-president of the Jewish General Hospital Foundation. Mr. Sidel will provide some valuable information concerning the Foundation's 75 years of service to the community.
On June 11, there will be an open forum during which, says the club's program notice, "Three articulate and outspoken members of our club will invite audience participation on interesting and important topics."
June 18 brings along one of those fantastic Games Afternoons for which the club is widely renowned. The fun flows freely, the games are challenging and rewarding, and the laughs are a mile-a-minute, judging by past events such as this.
And of note, the following Monday, June 22, members and friends will gather for the closing luncheon of the 2008-2009 season. Entertainment will be provided by the inimitable and indefatigable Greg Innes whose talented fingers will tickle the keys on his keyboard for the enjoyment of all.
These meetings, as do all other regular gatherings of the club take place at Young Israel of Chomedey Synagogue, 1025 Elizabeth, in Chomedey, with a usual starting time of 1:30 pm.
In addition, the club also offers Line Dancing, led by an experienced professional teacher, every Tuesday morning from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. New starting in June will be a beginners class, which will run from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, also on Tuesdays.
"Everyone is welcome to all our meetings and events," says spokesperson Toby Banks. "Come and enjoy stimulating and informative afternoons in a warm and congenial atmosphere, not to mention savouring the delicious refreshments which are served at all events," explains Mrs. Banks by way of invitation to the community-at-large.
