The Quebec Transport Department is presently doing repair work on the Lachapelle (Cartierville) Bridge that spans the Rivière des Prairies in Chomedey. The repair work, started at end of May, has necessitated the complete closure of the eastern part of the span until September. All traffic to and from Montreal is being diverted to the span's western lanes.
Monday to Friday, 6:00 am to 10:30 am, two of the three lanes on the open span will handle traffic into Montreal, with the third lane giving motorists access to Laval. From 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, the lanes are reversed with two handling traffic into Laval, the other towards Montreal. In hours in-between, at least one lane will be open in either direction. Of note, the lane reserved for car-pools will be eliminated for the duration of the repair period.
The eastern span of the bridge will partially reopen in September, and be kept open until all work is completed in December of 2009. During repairs, the surface of the western portion of the span will be completely redone. All bicycle paths and pedestrian walkways under the bridge, on the Montreal and Laval banks of the Rivière des Prairies, will be accessible during the repair period. Information: 5-1-1 or
