Laval's George Bekiaris stars in I AM I
Chemical Engineering graduate pursues another passion
Chomedey's George Bekiaris, one of the three stars of Dancing Monkey Theatre's latest production, I AM I, comes by his passion for the stage in a rather round-about way, on a less beaten path than the usual waitering day-job of most aspiring actors.
"George has made an unusual entrance into the world of theatre, by way of graduating from McGill University as a chemical engineer," says Barbara Ford, publicist of Dancing Monkey Theatre, the Montreal Company which is producing I AM I.
George, whose day job is that of a chemical engineer, has already racked up a fairly impressive body of work. Following a stint at studying acting in the Actors' Studio Montreal (ASM), he was featured in two 2008 productions – Moises Kaufman's <@Ri>The Laramie Project<@Sp>(summer) and Tableau D'Hôte's <@Ri>Lion in the Streets (fall) – and just this past spring performed in the Gleams Theatre production of My Child.
I AM I
You can catch George in I AM I - written by Mike Czuba, directed by Larry Lamont, and also starring Patricia Mckenzie and Tristan D. Lalla - starting July 8, at the Players' Theatre, 3480 McTavish Street, 3rd Floor. The curtain for the opening night performance, one of eleven scheduled for the run, opens at 8:00 pm, with the other ten (July 9-24) also starting at the same time.
You'll love the production and you'll marvel at George Bekiaris's talent, says Barbara Ford, adding that George would love to see friends, acquaintances and fellow Laval residents in the audience at the performances.
"George's role in the production is a terrific reason for Chomedey and Laval residents to brave the inner-city construction and avoid the festival crowds to catch this bright, new comedy," Mrs. Ford told Courrier Laval in a telephone conversation.
Dancing Monkey Theatre's I AM I production, starring Chomedey's George Bekiaris, will be at the Players' Theatre, 3480 McTavish, 3rd Floor, for eleven performances July 8,9,10,11,15,16,17,18,22,23,24, 8:00 pm. $20, (students/seniors $15). Info: 514 369-6954 or at theatredancingmonkey@gmail.com
