Saint-Martin District tennis courts reopen
Lovers of tennis who live in Chomedey got their Saint-Martin Park courts back earlier this week. The official reopening of the facility took place this past Monday, August 10, in front of about 50 residents of the district.
Under renovation since the fall of 2008, the work was completed last July 23, following several delays caused by poor weather. Total cost of the renovations was $170,000.
"The playing surface was badly damaged. Something had to be done. In the end, while the fences remained the same, the playing surface was completely redone and all equipment, including nets and posts, was replaced," Explained Janique Letellier, coordinator at BML (Municipal Office of Recreation) 3.
Rain and a corn roast
The official reopening featured a corn roast and speeches. Following an attempt by local monitors to dry the playing surfaces soaked by heavy rain, a few brave souls ventured forth to hit a some balls back and forth to mark the happy occasion.
"The Tennis Courts at Saint-Martin Park go back to 1988. The facilities were greatly used in the past and we expect the same in the future," stated Alexandre Duplessis, Saint-Martin District city councilor, tennis racket in hand to celebrate the occasion.
Also in attendance at the happy event was Tennis Laval president Marius Brisson.
Accessibility
The tennis courts, located at the intersection of Favreau and Farand Streets, offer courses open to all children attending day camps or living in the district. The facilities are also available to all Laval residents, from 4 pm to 11 pm, weekdays and all day on weekends.
