Magic in motion at Déjà Vu, Laurier Senior High School's 2009 Show With Fashion
If we are judged by the company we keep, and we often are, then it must be said that Laurier Senior High School's Show With Fashion is in exceptionally good company. Proof: Déjà Vu, the 2009 edition of this annual visually stunning extravaganza attracted a veritable who's who of the community's representatives, ranging from a number of past school administrators to a trio of Quebec MNAs and Laurier Board Commissioners, with the most special of touches added to the event by the personal appearance of internationally-renowned Canadian fashion designer Simon Chang.
And if this weren't enough, the Saturday performance was also honoured by the presence of Jordan, a Canadian soldier freshly returned from a tour duty in Afghanistan.

"Year after year, we are very gratified to receive attention from a variety of sources," Alan De Souza, senior advisor of the production, told Courrier Laval at the show's conclusion. "We very much appreciate the support of prominent individuals of the community, but as importantly we are grateful to the family and friends of the cast and crew who filled the hall on all three nights of this, our 10th anniversary Show With Fashion," added Mr. De Souza, creator of this original concept of showcasing clothes through the ample talents of young people whose enthusiasm, dedication and hard work, is second to none.
The company
What did 2000 people see at full-house performances of the 2009 Show With Fashion? Nearly 150 models, complemented by several dozen stage and security crew, all of it coming together to bring to life the creations of 29 fashion outlets, capped off with a show-stopping display of the immensely fertile designing imagination of Simon Chang.
"I am truly overwhelmed by the profound level of involvement of these young people, a deep sense of dedication which is so characteristic of the entire Laurier Senior High School community," stated new principal Nick Primiano, shortly after he himself had made a charming cameo catwalk appearance in support of the young people who had put so much time, effort and energy into making the 2009 edition of Show With Fashion the ultimate achievement in artistic, theatrical and musical excellence.

And oh, yes, the clothes! All of them made to look fantastic by an infusion of tasteful glamour, mischievous mirth, playful moxie and visual virtuosity on the part of the young men and young women who didn't just model the clothes, they brought them to life in a stunning parade of delight for the eyes, backed by spectacular lighting and vibrant music that enhanced their every move - from stage to catwalk and back.
A Show With Fashion
True to form, this Show With Fashion surpassed all expectations, testifying to the deep well of creativity that rests in the hands of the production's major driving force, Alan De Souza, and his trusted collaborators, Dominic Di Stefano (Laurier Senior's Spiritual Animator) and Lina Varano (friend of Laurier Senior, resource person, and consultant).
"In essence, I am grateful that a decade after starting this endeavour with a head and heart full of ideas, I am still full of ideas which have yet to be tried, and that is the substance of this kind of commitment. The freshness never ends, the newness is constant, day in and day out, because that's what you get when you surround yourself with vibrant and vital young people whose minds, hearts, and souls are in the right place," Mr. De Souza explained in his message to the Laurier Senior Community printed in the show's full-colour 68-page program.
Reaching out
Of note, in continuing its tradition of reaching out to the community-at-large, in support of worthy causes, the Laurier Senior High School 2009 Show With Fashion will once again donate a substantial part of the proceeds to several groups, including the Canadian Breast Cancer Society, the Children's Wish Foundation, Giant Steps, and Le Bon Dieu Dans La Rue. Parts of the profit are also contributed to school activities and are used to provide financial assistance to economically disadvantaged families of the school.
